Digital Multi-Track Recording

Digital multi-track recording captures isolated audio tracks from every source simultaneously — giving post full flexibility to mix, clean up, and edit.

Digital multi-track recording captures each audio source — boom mic, lavalier microphones, plant mics — on its own isolated track simultaneously. Every channel is recorded independently, so the post-production team has full control over the mix: they can adjust levels, clean up individual channels, or cut around a noisy source without it affecting the rest.

This is the standard approach for any production where dialogue quality matters. On scripted work, documentary interviews, and commercial shoots, I use the Sound Devices Scorpio to record isolated tracks alongside the main mix.

The alternative is a single stereo mix baked into the camera — which is fine for fast-moving news or web content, but leaves post with very few options if something goes wrong. Multi-track gives them everything they need.
